Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Playland’s Castaway Cove: Two Amusement Ride Options Offering Fun for the Whole Family on the Ocean City Boardwalk

Amusement rides are a popular attraction at the Jersey shore. For those who vacation and live in Ocean City, New Jersey, two large amusement ride options are available: Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Playland’s Castaway Cove.

Gillian’s Wonderland Pier

Wonderland

Located at the beginning of the main area of boardwalk shops at 6th Street and Boardwalk, Gillian’s Wonderland Pier has been offering amusement ride fun since 1929!

Open noon–11 p.m. throughout the summer season, Gillian’s Wonderland Pier features rides for all thrill levels, from the historic carousel to the hold-onto-your-seat Musik Express. Visitors can choose to purchase tickets in single form or in package deals or take advantage of one of the many money-saving events they offer throughout the season, such as Wonder’s Charitable Magic Monday, where ride-seekers can enjoy unlimited rides for $25 per wristband from noon– 4 p.m. on Mondays and see the proceeds go to a different charity organization each week, or Two Ticket Tuesdays and Thursdays, where all rides cost two tickets each on these days from noon–4 p.m.

After the rides, you are sure to have worked up an appetite. Stop into the 6th Street Pizza and Grill next door for pizza, whole or by the slice, cheese steaks, Italian subs, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, wings, fries and more!

Playland’s Castaway Cove

Castaway Cove

A few blocks away, at 1020 Boardwalk, Playland’s Castaway Cove is another amusement ride spot you’ll have to visit when hitting the boardwalk in Ocean City. This amusement park also has been offering fun to Ocean City residents and vacationers for many years, with more than 50 years in business.

From the old school, family fun Tilt-a-Whirl to the thrill-filled Gale Force upside-down roller coaster, Playland’s Castaway Cove offers rides of all levels. Playland’s Castaway Cove also offers ticket packages and single ticket offerings to choose from when enjoying a day or night at the rides, which is open from 1–11 p.m. In addition, be sure to keep an eye out for ride specials and events, such as their charitable events, held throughout the season.

When you need a bite to eat after riding the Ferris wheel or zooming up high in the sky on Double Shot, head to Prep’s Pizza and Dairy Bar a few doors down. In addition to plentiful pizza offerings (try the white pizza!) and sandwich options, Prep’s also offers refreshing ice cream options to top off your time on the boardwalk.
