Happening This Weekend: Ocean City Fire Department Open House, Jeep Invasion, Breast Cancer Walk and More

With the past weekend’s Fall Block Party festivities completed, one may think that this would have been the grand finale to the fall excitement in Ocean City. With the exciting roster of events that lies ahead this weekend, one can clearly see that this is not the case.

This weekend will be filled with plenty of activities for individuals of all ages to enjoy. Whether you are a Jeep enthusiast, a kid who loves everything revolving around firefighters and the fire department or an individual who desires to lend a hand to raise money in the fight against breast cancer, you’ll have your pick of activities this weekend in Ocean City.

Ocean City Fire Department Open House (Oct. 12)

As mentioned earlier this month on OCNJ Happenings, the Ocean City Fire Department Open House will be taking place this week. Originally scheduled for Thursday, October 11, but moved to the previously-scheduled rain date of Friday, October 12, family members of all ages will love visiting the firehouse, learning more about the fire department operations and enjoying a fun evening all around. The event will run from 5–8 p.m. at the Fire Department headquarters at 550 Asbury Avenue. Find all of the finer details here.

Pops and Pets Event at the Ocean City Yacht Club (Oct. 12)

Enjoy an evening of elegant dining and Ocean City Pops music at the Ocean City Yacht Club on Friday, October 12, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. For $85 per person plus a pet supply donation, guests will enjoy savory appetizers, a delectable dinner and live Pops music. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of the Ocean City Pops Ruggieri Society and the pet supplies will benefit the Ocean City Humane Society‘s shelter residents. Tickets can be purchased online.

New Jersey Jeep Invasion (Oct. 13)

Whether you are a Jeep owner or simply a Jeep enthusiast, this weekend’s New Jersey Jeep Invasion event was made for you! Join other Jeep aficionados on Saturday, October 13, for a day filled with all things Jeep-inspired. Jeeps will line the boardwalk from 5th to 14th Streets from noon–5 p.m. and car enthusiasts can stroll along and check out a wide array of Jeep styles throughout the day.

Cape May County Bar Association 5K (Oct. 13)

Also on Saturday, October 13, is the Cape May County Bar Association 5K, which will unfold  in the morning hours. In addition to the 5K run, there will also be a 1K fun walk. If you have yet to sign up and would like to take part in the event, online registration is available until 7:59 p.m. on October 12 and in-person registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday at the Music Pier, with the race starting at 8 a.m.

American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk (Oct. 14)

On Sunday, October 14, don your pink attire and head to the Ocean City High School for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk to support breast cancer survivors and raise money to aid in the fight against breast cancer. Event registration will be held on the practice field, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with the opening ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. and the walk commencing at 10 a.m.

Chili Chowder Festival (Oct. 14)

Later in the day on Sunday, October 14, head to the Music Pier for the Chili Chowder Festival, from 1–4 p.m. Not only will you be able to enjoy a wide array of chili and chowder offerings throughout the day, but you’ll be lending a hand to the Ocean City Fire Department as they raise money to support their Foundation fund, which helps the local community in a number of wonderful ways. The cost to attend is $15 per adult and $5 per child and the admission fee gains you unlimited chili and chowder samplings along with a bottle of water.
