Support Local Charities and Organizations on This Giving Tuesday (Nov. 27)

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as Giving Tuesday, a day where individuals come together to support their favorite charities and nonprofit organizations. Although it’s important to give, when able, throughout the year, having this one day specifically dedicated to helping others is a wonderful concept.

Although individuals may have a specific charity in mind, which may even be located across the country (or even the globe), it’s important to note that there are plenty of local charities which you may wish to add to your Giving Tuesday donation roster on November 27.

Waves of Caring

Ocean City-sanctioned charity Waves of Caring is a local entity in which one might want to donate to this Giving Tuesday. Each year, Waves of Caring collects toys for Ocean City families in need, to ensure that local families are taken care of during the holiday season, a time when money may be tight and gifts are difficult to manage. The annual toy drive is just one of the ways in which Waves of Caring lends a hand to the local community. The organization also accepts monetary donations to help the charity achieve its goals. Find out how you can donate to Waves of Caring on Giving Tuesday, and throughout the holiday season, by contacting the Ocean City Neighborhood and Social Services office at (609) 525-9288.

Humane Society of Ocean City

The Humane Society of Ocean City is another local nonprofit organization which could use a helping hand on Giving Tuesday. The no-kill animal shelter, located at 1 Shelter Road, accepts online donations, in-person contributions and pet product and food donations. Lend a paw to the cats, dogs and other furry friends at the Humane Society of Ocean City this Giving Tuesday.

Ocean City Ecumenical Council

The Ocean City Ecumenical Council, a 501(c)(3) organization, offers many ways in which to donate and help the local residents of Ocean City. Two of the ways include the Clothes Closet, which accepts donations of new and gently used clothing items, and the Food Cupboard, which collects food donations and distributes the items to those in need. Those who would like to support the efforts of the Ocean City Ecumenical Council may also make a direct monetary donation.

Ocean City Firefighters Foundation

The Ocean City Fire Department holds a number of charitable events throughout the year in order to raise money for its Foundation Fund, a fund which is used to help local organizations and charities achieve their individual goals. By making a donation directly to the Ocean City Firefighters Foundation Fund, donors can help the firefighters aid local entities in a number of ways. To learn more about how you can donate to the Foundation Fund, contact the fire department via the non-emergency number at (609) 525-9182.

Community FoodBank of New Jersey – Southern Branch

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey – Southern Branch operates on the mission to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey and help those in need. This Giving Tuesday, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (both the Northern Branch and Southern Branch) will be matching every donation received. Therefore, instead of having every $1 donated equal 3 meals, every $1 donated will equate to 6 meals being made available to those in need. Donate on Giving Tuesday and see your generous donation matched!
