Events unfold year-round in Ocean City and there is always something to see and do, no matter what month it may be. In the springtime, two of my favorite events take place, including the Doo Dah Parade and Mr. Mature America Pageant. Each year, a very special celebrity is chosen to host these two fun and unique events. Last year, Erik Estrada of CHiPs fame took over the grand marshal and emcee duties, providing an exciting and lighthearted day all around. This year, Barbara Eden, known for playing the lead role in I Dream of Jeannie, will be headlining these two spectacular Ocean City events on Saturday, April 13.
Doo Dah Parade
The Doo Dah Parade is the first exciting event of the day on Saturday, April 13, starting at noon. The canine-filled parade festivities will begin at 6th Street and the participants will work their way down Asbury Avenue to 12th Street, at which point they head up to the boardwalk and promenade back down to 6th Street. The parade will feature a basset hound-filled procession of more than 500 basset hounds, many of which are dressed up in creative costumes, marching bands, floats and special grand marshal, Barbara Eden!
This annual parade is held to welcome in the official beginning of event season and acts as a gateway to four seasons of fun down the shore. Want to take part in the parade procession? Online registration is now open!
Mr. Mature America Pageant
The Mr. Mature America Pageant unfolds later in the evening at the Music Pier, where gentlemen ages 55+ will show off their talents and poise, while vying for the title of Mr. Mature America 2019. The competition begins at 7 p.m. and consists of a judge’s interview session, talent competition, poise and appearance and on-stage question. Barbara Eden will be the esteemed emcee of the evening.
Interested in competing to become the next Mr. Mature America? Registration is now open online for men ages 55 and older to compete for the title of Mr. Mature America. For those who wish to be spectators at this not-to-be-missed event, tickets will be available online and at various ticket locations throughout Ocean City on March 1.
Don’t miss the opportunity to attend these two popular Ocean City events on April 13, whether it be in the role of spectator or participant.
