Head to Carey Stadium, a.k.a., The Beach House, and watch the Ocean City Nor’easters take on Cedar Stars Academy. The game starts at 7 p.m. and provides a great evening event for all ages.

Monday, July 1

Paddle Board Sunset

  • Beach Exercise: Start your Fourth of July week off right with a free beach exercise session hosted by the Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center. This fun and healthy event takes place on the 6th Street beach from 8–9 a.m. Bring a towel and your friends! And, if you miss the Monday event and are craving some exercise later in the week, the free event will also be offered on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Sunset Paint and Paddle Event: Combine a multitude of relaxing events, including sunset views, paddleboarding, and painting, into one fun evening with the Sunset Paint and Paddle Event. Hosted by the Ocean City Paddle Company and Peace of Wood, participants will enjoy paddleboarding on the bay and then a painting session of the beautiful views as the sun sets. Tuesday, July 2

  • Funtastic Tuesdays: Bring the family down to Asbury Avenue on Tuesday for the city-hosted Funtastic Tuesdays event. The fun unfolds from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. between 6th and 14th Streets on Asbury Avenue and includes live entertainment, face painting, balloon sculptors, and more!
  • Fun Runs: Get your exercise and have fun doing so on Tuesday, July 2, with the fun run events, including short runs and kids distances, at Carey Stadium. The all-ages event takes place from 6–7 p.m. and is free to attend.
  • Mummers Night: Get your Mummers strut on when the Mummers Night event unfolds on the Ocean City boardwalk from 7–9 p.m. Colorful costumes, lively music, and an evening of exciting entertainment awaits you on Mummers Night.

Wednesday, July 3

  • Ocean City Farmers Market: Stock up on all of your Fourth of July party and barbecue essentials at the Ocean City Farmers Market. Fresh produce, hot sauce, pickles and olives, baked goods, flowers, handmade items, and other wonderful offerings are up for grabs at the Ocean City Farmers Market, which takes place from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. on the Ocean City Tabernacle grounds at 5th Street and Asbury Avenue.
  • Wacky Wednesday – Pie Eating Contest: Get wacky this Wednesday by taking part in a cherry and apple pie eating contest at the Ocean City Music Pier. The event starts at 10:30 a.m., but be sure to get there early if you want to participate as this popular all-ages event is limited to 150 participants. This contest is free to participate in, but remember, no hands!
  • Ocean City POPs Opening Night – A Star-Bangled Spectacular: The popular musical organization, the Ocean City POPs, will be holding its opening night performance on Wednesday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. on the Music Pier. With a theme of “A Star-Spangled Spectacular” you know you’ll be treated to all of your favorite patriotic tunes. Tickets can be purchased at the Music Pier box office or online.

Thursday, July 4

Fourth of July Bike Ride

  • Bike Parades: Decorate your bikes in festive ribbons, streamers, and patriotic banners, and join in one of two bike parades being held in Ocean City on the Fourth of July. One bike parade will be held in the Gardens section of Ocean City on the north end of the island and registration begins at 9 a.m. in the Longport Bridge parking lot. The event takes place from 10–11 a.m. For those on the south end of the island, there will be a bike parade starting at 40th Street and Asbury Avenue. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the parade runs from 10–11 a.m.
  • Fourth of July Celebration: The Fourth of July evening festivities will begin at 7 p.m. with a kite flying competition on the beach next to the Music Pier. This contest will be followed by live entertainment. And, for the grand finale of the Fourth of July evening, an extraordinary fireworks display will light the sky beginning at 9 p.m.

Friday, July 5

  • Children’s Theatre Series: Schoolhouse Rock Live!: Bring the kids to see the Schoolhouse Rock Live! show at the Ocean City Music Pier on July 5, starting at 10:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Ocean City Music Pier box office or online.

Floral Beauty and Horticultural Talents to Be Displayed at the 47th Annual Ocean City Flower Show (May 31–June 2)

The 47th Annual Ocean City Flower Show will take place at the Music Pier this weekend, Friday, May 31–June 2, 2019.

Hosted by The Garden Club of Ocean City, this annual event features the horticultural talents of those who know and love all things floral-related. From table displays featuring exquisite arrangements to individual floral categories, such as roses, the Ocean City Flower Show features a wide array of competition categories for the gardening-savvy and floral arranging community to enter.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Holidays” and attendees at the Flower Show will see this theme displayed throughout the event in the wide array of categories which encompass this popular East Coast flower show.

In prior years, the Ocean City Flower Show featured talented pianists who would play soothing music in the background as guests strolled through the Music Pier viewing the lovely and awe-inspiring displays which the talented competitors created.

Some of the categories which participants may be competing in will include the following:

  • Artistic design
  • Table display
  • Junior division
  • Horticulture
  • Rose specimen
  • Plant specimen
  • Orchid
  • And many more!

2019 Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City Has Arrived

The weekend we’ve been eagerly anticipating, Memorial Day weekend, is upon us!

It’s been a long winter and this weekend offers a chance to embrace the upcoming summer festivities along with honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City introduces the unofficial start to summer and this means that our favorite seasonal restaurants and shops will be opening their doors once again.

The following will highlight some seasonal openings and detail Memorial Day weekend activities throughout the town, including the must-attend Memorial Day service at the Ocean City Tabernacle.

Unlocking of the Ocean and Businsessperson’s Plunge

To kick off Memorial Day weekend, the city will be hosting its annual beachside event, the Unlocking of the Ocean and the Businessperson’s Plunge. This fun event will unfold at noon today, Friday, May 24, on the Moorlyn Terrace Street beach next to the Ocean City Music Pier. This annual event includes the ceremonial unlocking of the ocean for the summer season and features local vendors and business owners in business dress going for a celebratory swim as the Ocean City High School Marching Band plays “Pomp and Circumstance.”

All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to gather at the Music Pier starting at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony today will also include the recognition of an extremely important donation of a defibrillator by the local Coast Guard Auxiliary. The new defibrillator will be set up outside of the Music Pier and provide easy access to this important emergency medical equipment, should it be necessary to do so.

Ocean City Beach Patrol to Begin Guarding Beaches on Saturday, May 25

Starting Saturday, May 25, the Ocean City Beach Patrol will be out on the beaches protecting the community as residents and visitors enjoy the first pre-summer swim in the Atlantic Ocean. The guarded beaches will be limited in number pre-season and include the following beaches from Saturday, May 25, through Friday, May 29:

  • St. Charles Place
  • Brighton Place
  • 8th Street
  • 9th Street
  • 10th Street
  • 11th Street
  • 12th Street
  • 26th Street
  • 34th Street
  • 58th Street

The beaches are guarded during the hours of 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. on weekends and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays.

Be safe and only swim at guarded beaches during OCBP hours.

Now Open: Seasonal Restaurants and Shops to Visit

Although some of our favorite restaurants and shops have been open year-round or had their seasonal opening around the time of the Spring Block Party weekend, others are just now putting out their awnings and opening their doors to the dining and shopping crowds. Some of your favorite seasonal spots which are now open or will open during Memorial Day weekend include the following:

  • Santucci’s: The moment we’ve been waiting for is now here! Santucci’s will be open today, Friday, May 24, at their new location at 944 Boardwalk.
  • Bungalow Bowls: The team at Bungalow Bowls (1054 Asbury) is opening a second location on the boardwalk and is hoping to open the new shop this Saturday, May 25. This is still tentative, but be sure to check out the new location at 816 Boardwalk this weekend to see if the doors are open.
  • Heart Beet Kitchen:  Heart Beet Kitchen is open for the season in Ocean City. You can find all of your healthy and delicious dining options at Heart Beet Kitchen, located at 801 8th Street.
  • Playa Bowls: Playa Bowls opened its doors for the season last week and will be serving up acai bowls, poke bowls, and other culinary delicacies at its location in the Promenade Food Court at 744 Boardwalk.
  • Mallon’s Homemade Sticky Buns: Now open daily, starting at 7 a.m., Mallon’s at 1340 Bay Avenue will be serving up all of its popular sweet treats for the summer crowd to enjoy.
  • Blitz’s Market: The second Blitz’s Market at 2100 Asbury Avenue is now open for the season.
  • Salty Seahorse: This new home decor and jewelry boutique opened its doors at 714 Asbury Avenue a few weeks ago and the Salty Seahorse is a shop you’re going to want to visit!
  • Beach Bucket Lunch: Spending the day on the beach and didn’t have a chance to pack lunch? No problem! Beach Bucket Lunch starts its lunch delivery service for the season today, Friday, May 24.
  • Crunchik’n: Crunchik’n is open for the season at 1348 Boardwalk and you can once again indulge in all of your menu favorites at this popular boardwalk eatery, including their exceptional Korean fried chicken with a wide array of sauces.

Dancing for Hailey Lemonade Stands

When driving, walking, or riding your bike around town this weekend, be sure to be on the lookout for Dancing for Hailey lemonade stands. Purchase a nice cold glass of lemonade and see your donation go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation! Some of the lemonade stand spots scheduled for Saturday, May 25, are as follows:

      • Acme (8th and West): 9–11 a.m.
      • Local Gym and Fitness (908 Asbury Ave.): 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
