2019 Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City Has Arrived

The weekend we’ve been eagerly anticipating, Memorial Day weekend, is upon us!

It’s been a long winter and this weekend offers a chance to embrace the upcoming summer festivities along with honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City introduces the unofficial start to summer and this means that our favorite seasonal restaurants and shops will be opening their doors once again.

The following will highlight some seasonal openings and detail Memorial Day weekend activities throughout the town, including the must-attend Memorial Day service at the Ocean City Tabernacle.

Unlocking of the Ocean and Businsessperson’s Plunge

To kick off Memorial Day weekend, the city will be hosting its annual beachside event, the Unlocking of the Ocean and the Businessperson’s Plunge. This fun event will unfold at noon today, Friday, May 24, on the Moorlyn Terrace Street beach next to the Ocean City Music Pier. This annual event includes the ceremonial unlocking of the ocean for the summer season and features local vendors and business owners in business dress going for a celebratory swim as the Ocean City High School Marching Band plays “Pomp and Circumstance.”

All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to gather at the Music Pier starting at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony today will also include the recognition of an extremely important donation of a defibrillator by the local Coast Guard Auxiliary. The new defibrillator will be set up outside of the Music Pier and provide easy access to this important emergency medical equipment, should it be necessary to do so.
